SyncMyBookmarks Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 May 2026

SyncMyBookmarks (“the extension”) is a Chrome browser extension that synchronizes your bookmarks across multiple browsers. This privacy policy explains exactly what data the extension handles, where it is stored, and what control you have over it.

What data does the extension access?

The extension reads the following from your browser and Google account:

  • Your bookmarks — titles, URLs, and folder structure. Read using Chrome’s bookmarks API.
  • Your Google account email address — used to identify your account for sync. Retrieved via Google’s OAuth userinfo endpoint after you sign in.
  • An OAuth refresh token — stored on your device by Chrome, used to maintain your sign-in session without prompting you each time.

The extension does not access:

  • Your browsing history
  • Passwords or credentials
  • Form data or autofill data
  • Any data outside the categories above

Where your data is stored

DataLocationPurpose
Bookmarks (full tree)Your own Google Drive (in a hidden app-data folder only this extension can access)Source of truth for sync
Email + subscription statusFirestore databaseTracks whether you have an active premium subscription or trial
Sync timestamps only (no bookmark content)Firebase Realtime DatabaseNotifies your other browsers when changes happen
OAuth refresh token, sync metadataLocal browser storage on your deviceLocal app state

Your bookmarks are stored in your own Google Drive, not on our servers. We do not maintain a copy. We cannot read your bookmarks. We never see them.

Third parties

  • Google — provides authentication (OAuth), bookmark file storage (Drive), and database services (Firestore, Realtime Database). Your data on Google’s services is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • PayPal — if you upgrade to Premium, you are redirected to PayPal’s website to complete payment. We do not see, store, or process your payment information. PayPal’s handling of your payment data is governed by PayPal’s Privacy Statement.

We do not share, sell, or transmit your data to any other third party.

Tracking and analytics

The SyncMyBookmarks extension itself includes no analytics, no telemetry, and no tracking of any kind.

The blog hosting this privacy policy (techbydavey.com) uses Google Analytics to measure website visitor traffic. This is limited to the blog and is unrelated to the extension. It only applies if you visit techbydavey.com in your browser.

Your control over your data

You can:

  • Sign out from the extension popup. This clears your refresh token and stops sync on that device.
  • Revoke the extension’s access entirely at myaccount.google.com/permissions → SyncMyBookmarks → Delete all connections. This removes our ability to read your bookmarks.
  • Request the deletion of your subscription record by contacting us at the email below. We will delete your Firestore record within 30 days.
  • Delete the bookmark file in your Google Drive at any time. It lives in the Drive app-data folder for SyncMyBookmarks.

Children

The extension is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated via the extension itself or on this page.
